starter will not engage on fly wheel just spins took it off hook up 12 volts an just works great put back in then it just spins. Any Info. fly wheel looks ok.
 
Possibly the spring is broken on the drive. Or maybe the end is broke off of drive. Did the starter spin at a normal speed on the tractor? Ould be weak battery or cables need cleaning. jstpa
 
IT spun at its normal speed u can hear it speed fast but it must not be going in all the way took it out checked it looks like it is going far enough
 
fully extend the starter drive gear to the end of the housing and measure how far it goes. measure off the starter mounting ears. then take a depth measurement to see how far in the flywheel is. there are some washers on the end of the armature that control how far the bendix drive gear travels. it could be shimmed wrong. i have a cub that was shimmed wrong, did the same thing.
