Electric fence

My zebra 15 mile fence charger quit yesterday and need
something to replace it

Did a wonderful job at keeping the critters out of the garden

Didn't give it much thought back the but several months ago a
Deere jumped the fence. Bent the top rail and hit the charged
wire and hasn't come back. No tracks near the field

So for the new charger I want to get one that can handle
another higher wire (probably tape so they can see it) and
strong enough to give them a good shock to keep them away

I currently have a 3' fence made of hardware cloth (rat wire)
burried so they can't dig under with 1/2 electrical conduit
around the top to support a single charged.. Hooked the
ground to the cloth and a ground spike. Worked real well for
the past 3 years until the charger won't shock anymore. No
fuses sealed zebra unit

The best cure for an electric fence is installing a real fence to replace it. Other then that, I can't offer much!

I would take it to a decent repair shop. I am betting you just have a blown fuse.
I run 3 Gallager Fencers, and at least once a year 1 of them is in the shop.
Send me an email, and I can get you the guy that repairs mine. He does lots of mail order stuff, and is the warranty center for one of the big name fencers, just can't remember which.

That would work for rabbits and deer but not the ones that climb like chipmunks, squires, and raccoon.

I'd need to build a cage around the field and it would also handle the bird problems.

Unfortunately, i just don't have the cash to do this.

Unfortunately I already took it apart.

Looks like their was some corrosion on the circuit board where the hot and ground terminal bolts start and progress through the case.

Unit was clicking and light was flashing so I think it was a corrosion issue at the bolt to circuit board connection. Transformer inside was also a little rusty.

For $60 I might just replace it with a Zebra A15. Specs say it has an unloaded voltage of 9,000.

The charts suggest 5,000 to keep the deere out.

Are the Gallager's better then the Zebra and what do they go for. It's a large garden - half an acre so cost is a big consideration

Go to amazon and check reviews . most people that have zebras say the best place for them is on the shelf.i have a speedrite its close to 25 years old it still puts out 10000 volts (sparks jump a 1/4 inch ) love the unit cant belive how much hay i put up with that on rotational grazing 2 nd choice gallager is a good unit with parts avalable .
