Plow types or Plough types

HI, I grew up on a typical (small) farm here Michigan, soil with much clay. I
have never seen a 'disc' plow being used. Only
moldboard plows turning over the soil.
That makes we wonder, where they used and do they
have an advantage. Thanks.

You see disc plows in areas with hard, dry ground such as here in Kansas. They penetrate tough, dry clay better than a moldboard and leave the soil more fractured with fewer large clods. There was one at our Threshing Days show in Goessel just this past weekend and it was doing a nice job.

A disk plow works better in rocky areas.A disk will bounce over a rock.Wheras a moldboard will hook the rock and bend the crap out of things.Dont ask how I know this!lol

disc plows or ideal for reclaiming old grown over fields of scrub trees,,, stoney soils and they will shear off small tree roots that are 4 inches or smaller ,,and bury them ..

A poster from Florida on Ford(?) site was using one to finish cut down brush lot to get it ready for crops - noted the root grubbing use compared to his initial attempt to use the Ford moldboard plow- hangups on roots, spinning tires, holes dug in ground mess. RN
