NH 492 reel problem on haybine

I have a NH 492 haybine and just last week the #40 roller chain that drives the reel broke and it wrapped up behind the gear box and wedged so that I haven"t been able to remove the chain that is stuck. It appears that the wedged chain snapped the shaft in two such that the gear or sprocket can just be spun with no tension. This is part of the reel drive and I am uncertain if this thing is called a wobble box or not. Looking at the specs on this from NH, this is not the wobble box but is a separate gear that drives the reel. Anyway, can anyone tell me how to remove the reel gear box on NH 492. Seems like one could just replace this shaft and remount the box. Any help on this is appreciated.

It sounds as though the 492 is built like my 1465, that roller chain has zero clearance, if it breaks while running, it can and does break the shaft coming out of the gearbox that drives it and the wobble box, not going ot be an easy or cheap fix unfortunately. I have seen others comment about the chain tentioner on that chain coming off and then the chain binds and breaks causing the same damage. I now replace my chain every 2 years, and re-apply lock tite to the nut holding the tensioner in place. I only cut 45 acres of hay a year (usually twice so 90 acres)...

You asked pretty much the same question on 7/31. NO it's not the wobble box, same answer I gave you then. You're going to have to tear into it and see exactly whats busted. THen you can figure out what can be fixed.
