Tractor will not move

It's been suggested to me by helpful folks that my clutch is shot...but before I get into splitting the tractor, might anyone else have thoughts (or at least some guidance as to what I might do to diagnose and confirm the cause of the problem)?

I have had a 2001 MF4253 4X4 (with a 12 X 12 speed transmission (L M H with 4 speeds) with a manual clutch and a left-hand operated steering column-mounted shuttle shift) for approx 3 years (with 2500 total hrs.) and it has worked fine. I noticed the past few times I used it that it was getting sluggish to move when the clutch was disengaged...and now it will not move at all, in either direction, in any gear combination. Can any of you offer any suggestions as to what the cause might be and/or how to identify it/possible solutions? I just bought a complete service manual but it does not include any diagnosis sections. Thanks.

the clutch is electricly operated. No linkage. There is a switch that gets hot and fails periodicly till it fails completely. Had one replaced on an 02 Agco. Have it checked.

Thanks for the quick response. I will look for the switch in the Serv Manual. In the meantime, apologies for this prob. stupid question: Given that there is a foot actuated clutch...does that still mean that there is an elect. switch?

Thanks again. Hope you folks are right, as changing a switch would be much better than a clutch assembly. Will contact dealer for comments and advise.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Good morning. I've spoken with a few dealers and they seem to gravitate towards the clutch being shot. I have had someone watch the shuttle shifting while under the tractor and it appears to be moving from Forward to Neutral to Reverse and back with no problems (unless there is something internally wrong there).I am going to adjust the foot pedal play as recommended by the Serv Manual.I have also onfirmed that I can shift the transmission with the engine running without disengaging the clutch i.e. with my foot off the clutch, I can shift between gears and ranges...with no grinding/no resistance. That makes me feel that the clutch plate/pressure plate is not resting on the flywheel, meaning the p. plate is shot? Any thoughts? Maybe an adjustment will help...but I will find out.
