I think it might be overhaul time for the 570

Finally got my cockshutt 570 going. When it first started it had 28 psi of oil pressure at an idle. Had a little blue smoke like the one pic. After it got warmed up it started smoking like the other pic. Not all the time, but it'd blow smoke like that for a second then back to blue. Oil pressure dropped to 8 psi at an idle and 20 psi at higher rpms. I think the book says it should be at 30+. On a higher note, the transmission and steering seemed tight and quiet. Never drove one with this shift pattern before. That'll take some getting used to. Where have you guys had good experiences with Hercules parts? Probably be shipping this thing off to my favorite mechanic this winter.

I'd change oil using a good 15W-40 diesel grade oil and add some Marvel Mystery oil, then I put clean fuel in and a can of Seafoam and run at least two tankfulls of fuel thru before I tore into
it.

Try hooking it to something and making it work hard for a few hours first. Many times after sitting for a while that is all that's needed. My friend Jeff bought a White 2-85 this spring and I didn't think it sounded to good at first and smoked some white too. I think all it had done for years was hay work. After spring work it runs and sounds great and don't smoke at all. Our old 730 case diesel that we had on the farm was the manure spreader tractor every winter and every spring it would take 1/2 a day of hard work to get it back up to full power again. Just had to blow out all the junk that accumulated over winter.

This thing is blowing oil out the exaust and it's running right out the drain hole . You really think it might come back from that? It would be nice.

If it is pumping that much oil the rings may very well be stuck. Soak it for a week with ATF and then work the snot out of it. I'm not sure that the oil pressure will improve but I would pull the pan and have a looksee around. You may just find that the pickup is half blocked with sludge. With pressure that low and no lower end noise it may be a blockage. Usually when things get that loose you hear it.

I'm not familiar with Herc engines - what kinds of stem seals did they have? You may be sucking oil in from above. Also, run it a bit and crack the drain plug looking for water. The really smokey pic looks a little white to me.

I've had the pan off it. Everything is very clean. I put a new relief valve on the oil pump. No sludge anywhere in the pan/pump. It was full of diesel. Changed some seals in the injection pump and it has seemed to solve that problem. Didnot check any bearings when the pan was off. Wish I would have. Got in a hurry. It has a new oil filter and 15-40 oil in it. No additives yet. Has all new fuel filters and fuel in it. It say for years in a barn before the previous owner bought it. I know he never worked it. Just took it to a few shows. This thing is really blowing oil. I have spots on my arms and face from it blowing out the exaust when I drove it. Might as well try this stuff. Won't be out anything. It does run quiet and smooth. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks

Maybe, as I said it won't hurt to try it. Sadly, most were parked because they were shot so chances are not too good. What have you got to loose tho.

I would be scared to work it hard until i knew the bearings were good in the bottom end. and with low oil pressure? harder to fix with a hole in the side of the block.
