Weather-again

Couple of days ago I posted that it lookd like July could be one of the coldest on record. This Morning the News out of Dayton, Oh. 70 mile south of me had on the facts. This July was 3 coldest on record with I believe 2009 being the coldest and 1985 second coldest. I remember one year mid 1990's being very cold. Don't like temps below 70

I think it was 92 that was so cold wasn't it? There was a volcano that blew if memory serves me right. We had a killing frost the first week of September that year. Killed the corn before it was dented. Dent was way behind because of lack of growing degree days.
I remember I went to cut hay August 10th that year, had my insulated coveralls on,yellow fuzzy gloves and before I got to the field I was wishing I had put my stocking cap on.

Mount Pinatubo, in the Philippines, maybe? I think it was several months earlier, but it sure screwed up 1992. We called it the year without summer.

It was very memorable here for several reasons. We planted corn in June, which we don't like to do. We started building our shop, and had a house built at the farm. We moved from our previous house(one mile up the road, at the old homestead) on Thanksgiving day. Started corn harvest the next day. Dad passed away Dec. 6 with some corn still standing. I finished about Christmas. There was a lot of corn that didn't make it.

65-70 is perfect for me, but this cool summer is wrecking any chance I had at an ok corn crop. Real train wreck out there this year...... We've only had 2 hot days, the corn really jumped up those days, but been sitting since, bet 1/4 hasn't even tasseled yet.

Train wreck.

OK by me. I wish it could be like this year round. Hay doesn't seem to mind, and that's all I've got to worry about.

My wife hates AC so any day not in the 90's is a good one.

Although I would like to see a little more rain.

North Tx..

Had to get on the roof this morning, taking advantage of a very RARE cool day in August! It was about 70*, drizzling rain, actually a little cold once the rain started to soak through!

Global warming is responsible. As of 1PM EST it's 67 degrees in W SC. Oh, and overnight we got 3.2 inches of rain.

I'm in Ohio too, SE of Columbus. It's been very pleasant, I don't care for the real hot weather. Usually it's dry this time of year too and it's not been that way, still mowing the lawn once a week, but the pastures look good. My hay guy has already cut and delivered 2nd cutting. Looks like he'll get a 3rd cutting, still have room for about 200-250 bales in the hay loft.

I'll tell you what,I hope the powers that be at these seed companies are paying attention and leaning more toward cold tolerant, shorter maturing varieties of seed corn instead of "preparing for globull warming" like USDA is pushing.
