I got my boat back from the shop, the lower water pump was worn out. The impeller is made of rubber and was coming apart.

Not many hours, but a few years.

I know my outboard is suppose to have the impeller and water pump housing inspected yearly.
Most usually replace the impeller while they are in there if it needs it or not.

The impeller and water pump housing is suppose to be replaced every 3 years if it needs it or not.

Not worth the headaches and worries of it breaking 25 miles from the dock.

What do you use your boat for?
fishing; skiing; pleasure riding.
Mine is 99% fishing and 1% pleasure riding.

100% pleasure, no fishing.

As the repair goes, I would have known that this item should be serviced if I had READ the manual, which I do have.

Impellers on the raw water pump on my Crusader inboards are good for maybe a couple hundred hours. This is in a saltwater only boat. Starboard engine pump isn't too hard to get to, but for a fat old fellow like me, the port side pump always results in several new cuss words.

Having been raised around boats I learned at a very early age that the
