Another Paver Question

JD Seller got me thinking. Anyone ever used concrete staves from a silo as pavers for a sidewalk? One side is smooth, that would face up. Be neat to salvage them from my silo.

Get a good sand or sand small gravel base packed pretty hard, put a loose layer of sand evenly over it and it should be OK. Only thing is where you live you may get frost heave in the winter that could make for a treacherous pathway.

Might be worth a try, would you put the outside up or down? there is a quit a bit of curve to the smaller ones. They are tongue and grove on the top and bottom, aren't they?
Another question, you mentioned that plastic totes (about 250 gal) were inexpensive in your area? We could use a couple for watering our garden! 1/4 mile from well) Thanks, Russ

I"ve never seen a curved silo stave. I"ve seen plenty re-purposed and they stay put with a good base.

In-to-deep: It is funny that you brought up the silo stave idea. The kids pool ladder has set on three silos staves for years. I actually covered them over with the pavers. I though about using some of them but they are real heavy and I don't have many "good" ones around.

If you knock the silo over most of them are cracked or broken. Now if you pay to have it taken down just like they put them up you will have 95% of them intact.

An older neighbor used silos staves for a walk and screened in porch next to his pond. He did it in the early 1960s. The walk is still there.

sounds like a lot of work, but it sure would be cool to re-purpose them like that. has the property been in the family for awhile ? sure would be cool for your grand kid to tell their grand kid where they came from.

I used concrete apartment stair treads for a walkway many years ago. They are still there. I only had to pull a couple up to trim the tree roots that were raising them. Re-[set them and they are working well after all these years.
