Pickup started with a millisecond miss only in overdrive and only every now and again.
Friend says check the coil it may be weak.
Problem progresses to a very rough idle.
Runs ok when going down the road and will idle in park but kills if sit at a stop light with it in drive.
Then the check engine light comes on showing code 171 and 174.
Yea its dumping the fuel to it as the tail pipe is coal black by now.
So its not really a miss it is just loading up at idle.
People say its the O2 sensor; or a intake gasket leak.
I rule out both of these cause its showing a code on both banks. Don't think both O2 sensors went bad at the same time.
So I spray an entire can of carb cleaner all over the intake area looking for a vacuum leak.
Can not find one.
By now I am at wits end and about to spend $100 on a MAF sensor without even knowing for sure that will cure the problem.
So this afternoon I sat down and did a little reading; and threw a google search found a common problem with these Ford's.
$10 later the problem is fixed and truck idles normal. Yea it had a vacuum leak and a big one.
How did I ever get by in the past without google and the internet.
Next project is to replace the a/c hose assembly as I see what looks like a small leak in it.
