That happened quick

I visited my local snack shop yesterday. I was driving the old 63 ford pickup. I backed into the parking space. As I was leaving, the truck didn't start. I knew it was a loose battery connection. I got and wiggled the connection. The key is on the left side. I was half in, so to make sure it was a good connection I hit the key. Not realizing it was in reverse. Before I knew I was heading backward. Got the rest of the way in and got stopped before I hit anything in back of me. For a old guy I can still move real fast. Another foot over, and I would have hit one of the supporting posts holding up the porch roof. That would have made the 5 o'clock news. Another old driver lost control of his vehicle.Stan

That's why we had to put all that safety stuff on new fangled machines to save us from ourselves.

Lol, stuff like that happens fast. I just bought a 64 Ford a while back. If you can post a pic of yours I would love to see it.

This old stuck sat for years after Dad died around 92. Doing some clean up, and decided to get it running a year or so ago. It runs real good. The motor was rebuilt just before Dad stopped driving. It isn't much to look at, but will try and get a picture. Stan

Close one !

When I was young and foolish, I worked in this old Pepsi plant, which was converted into a recycling facility. We had a loading dock for tractor trailers, and 3/4 through unloading a trailer with a forklift there was some problem with it. Don't recall the details, and there was 2 of us, I don't believe I turned the key either, but that darned thing started in reverse, at about full throttle and took off backwards, we were on either side of it and thankfully it did not steer into us, not much room either side, it went out perfectly straight ! It went out the back of the truck, across the open area in front of the overhead door, a large one thankfully, at full throttle, went inside and just before it hit a concrete wall, which was part of a huge crushed glass bin, the throttle must have released and it went to an idle, but still had enough speed to ram the wall hard enough, and toss the 30lb tank out of its, holder, ripping the hose out with it. I try to remember to stay in the seat of anything I start no matter how tempting LOL !

you see, and i bet the boss said "im sorry you had a bad start this morning, it happens to the best of us, you want to go check out that new steak and stripper joint down the street for lunch ? i have worked in the construction industry for years and seen it all the time. if it was a girl, she would have been sh!t canned instantly. the main reason guys don't want girls on the job site is because they don't want a girl there watching them f*ck up all day long. just saying, from experience.

Gruesome, but gets the point across, not sure if I saw one take off like the one did on us that day, but anyone seeing that video, will get the point !!!! Graphic ! LOL !

There was a UPS driver watching. He came over as I was leaving, and said you just missed that post by a foot. I didn't need to hear that. Stan

Kid that used to work at a local auto parts store put a remote starter on his Jeep CJ. Now that CJ was a manual shift and somehow the start button got pressed in the kids pocket.
Jeep ran thru the front window of the store....

1963? That was probably made before safety interlocks were common in vehicles. By the late 1960's they were common.

Dad had a 1966 pickup that came with mandatory seat belts. I don't remember if it had a safety switch on the clutch or not. In winter everything started easier with the clutch in, so that was just done automatically out of habit.

i always push the clutch in when i start my tractors, just to give the battery a break. that's how i was raised. just saying.
