Back many moons ago when the John Deere dealers put on John Deere Days entertainment at the dealers, usually on Saturdays, that was one of the highlites of the year fur me.
I remember they usually had a story of a stubborn farmer that didn't want to get the latest tractor or modern conveniences for the farm or home.
I think he was of Swedish persuasion.
Does any one remember the stories and who the man in question wuz, and who played the part?
I don't seem to know enough info to google it.

I don't know about JD but I saw an old Farmall movie on one of these forums recently!Followed that same script.

The man was Tom Gordon. He was played by Walter Baldwin, who was also the original Floyd the Barber on the Andy Griffith Show before Howard McNear played him. The Gordon Family were fixtures on the John Deere Day films for many years from the late 40's through the 50's and possibly beyond. Mike

That Farmall clip was excellent for its time.

There is an article in the TC this month about certain people being in the Furrow and other media of Deere.

Here is what Wikipedia shows about this.

"Walter Baldwin was featured in a lot of John Deere Day Movies from 1949-59 where he played the farmer Tom Gordon. In this series of Deere Day movies over a decade he helped to introduce many new pieces of John Deere farm equipment year-by-year. In each yearly movie he would be shown on his in A Tom Gordon Family Film where he would be buying new John Deere farm equipment or a new green and yellow tractor.A picture of Walter Baldwin playing Tom Gordon can be found on page 108 of Bob Pripp's book John Deere Yesterday & Today"

I've got quite a few of them. Real interesting to watch and see the new tractors working. Story lines aren't to much but the video footage is interesting.

rrLund,

Do you know how to install the provision on my computor for the accents and valve points when typing foriegn words?
I use winders 7, and not much savy in useum of computor.
Do anyone else know vhat I have to do to get to accents?

I bought the whole set from Two Cylinder Club on DVD. The rural accents of the era before TV and movies smoothed the regional dialects are hilarious.
