MH44 EFI update

I had a disk brake lock up on me last night. I took it apart tonight, cleaned it and installed a NOS caliper. I had to shim the outer stator 1/8" to get it all to fit.

I turned auto-tune on, and it works pretty good. I spent about a 1/2 hour tonight going up and down my back hill at different RPM's and gears. I was pleased with the low end torque. I might have to decrease the amount it injects when you change the throttle, because it will puff out a little black for an instant.

I agree with Jim.The 'puff' is probally the same effect as an accelerator pump of an automotive carburator.I wouldn't worry or even give it a second thought.....Steve

I think that 'puff' is fine.Dont worry, and dont mess with it.I see lots of old tractors give a puff of black smoke when the throttle is opened quickly.I wouldn't worry/be concerned unless the black was constant.Put the tractor under a load, see if the smoke doesnt disappear.

David,

I would make note of the smoke and revisit it later as you get more things worked out with the program. Your tractor has more in common with a modern automobile than what it started out life as. Should be able to program it out rather easily. Too much fuel injected when going into enrichment mode or going into enrichment too soon (at too high of manifold vacuum) I think you are running speed density and not a MAF if I remember right.

As you know there is so much to program to get things right.

This sounds like a neat project. I was thinking about something like this the other day.

A little smoke during a transient is ok considering that you're dealing with an old technology combustion chamber.

I still have the mechanical governor, it is working fine, but know how to make an electronic one if I wanted to.

I have been following your adventure with the old Massey. You've truly accomplished much with your knowledge and I salute your effort. Just goes to show what can be done if you stick at it. You can probably make a lifetime project tweaking it to perfection.
