i have a duetz tractor its been sittin up for a year and some time but its over heating I was wondering could it be dirt and oil built up on the motor could that be the problem?? really need to know why

its air coolant and its getting good air pressure the motor has a lot of oil and dirt on the side could it cause it to heat up

There is a cover that you can remove to see if the fins are full of junk. You really need to tell us what model. The earlier ones had bolts that you removed. The later ones had a latch you snapped open to clean the fins. This is on the side of the motor where the belt driven fan blows the air around the jugs.

Also dirt and oil on the motor block will make it run hotter.

You need to keep those fins clean. The 6006 should have the easily remove cover. I have cleaned them with just compressed air but if there is any oil/fuel mixed with the dust then a pressure washer and soap is best. IF you don't have one use oven cleaner and a garden hose. Those fins need to be clean to dissipate heat.

Take the pressure washer to it, wont hurt it, and maybe, it might run cooler, at least it will make it nicer if you do have to work on it.

It won"t be a "water" problem that"s for sure. Deutz tractors were air cooled, including The D6006. I say "were" because I am pretty near certain the newer models are water cooled.

I have a 6806 ...yes oil and dirt will buildup on the fins..un snap cover on left side(looking at front of tractor)i use gumout engine cleaner..let it soak...then hose it off or pressure wash make sure to shoot the water from left to right..if you go r to left..it will go back under the oil cooler(hard to clean around/under there. Mine is a 1978..bought new..no problems..just maintain and they will run forever...just keep an eye on the fan belt..mine does"nt have the alarm on the pulley so i check it often... if the belt breaks..by the time you know.. it will be too late. It"s been a good tractor for me...but so has my 1966 mf 135.

Friend of mine worked on alot of Duetz engines in wood chippers that had been overheated. He said every single one of them had the oil cooler packed full of dust and chips.
