Just starting to restore a 420 john deere after taking the hood and nose off it I confirmed the tractor had been reprinted green with the yellow strip on hood
But after a closer look I find that the tractor is yellow under the paint and not ground yellow. So now I wonder is this a 420 industrial unit the serial plate now on it reads 420w but it looks like the plate is not original. How can I find out if indeed this was an industrial unit

On some JDs of that era the primer looks yellow with age. Unless your going to try to how it at the two banger expo paint it any color you want. Your not going to get it 100% like it was anyway. Just about any of the paint used today is better than what it came out with for starters. Second even if you buy JD parts many of them have been "subbed" up to parts that are not like the originals.
