1030 project

My 1030 project. Bought it knowing the engine was stuck. Got a bit of a start on it tonight by getting rid of the cab, junk on the front, and boxes on the fenders. Except for the screens, which are not bad it's nice and straight. Shows 3600 hrs on the tach and I thinks that's about right by the wear on the seat and hitches and such. That's the good news. The bad is that the air and hyd. filters are factory original. Could have something to do with the engine being stuck. Also found some water in the pan, about a quart which isn't too bad considering how long it's been sitting. Going to try to break the engine loose tomorrow, if it don't go easy I'll just tear it down and see what;s what. If it's too bad I'll part it out.

When I bought my MM M670 Super, the air filter was from 1972, and had instructions on it for washing it. I guess they could be washed, dried and reused 5 times. I never knew they could be washed. Are those 23 x 30 tires?

Yes on the tire size. I knew about the washing and tried it once. The filter fell apart so I never did it again. This one I don't think has ever been washed tho. lol

I would think they would fall apart. I haven't tried it myself as it seems easier to buy a new one and hope for the best lol. It sure looks "beefy" with those tires.

Are you restoring it back to original? A 451? or 504 direct injection engine would make a nice transplant. Nice looking old case

I once came across a fellow who had a business washing heavy truck air filters. He used a commercial dish washing machine. Maybe back in the day when gasoline was $.25 a gal. someone who was extremely frugal could figure that he could clean oil filters by pouring a gallon or two of gasoline backwards through them.

I like that air filter! Maintenance must have been excellent. If you need an injector pump, I"ve got a fresh rebuild from a 2470 504...the one I put a Cummins 855 in.
