Carolinians; If still Dry? Hurricane on the way!

I see Hurricane warnings issued. 1st of the season I think too. National Weather Service her around Indianapolis says we had about 7.5"'s in June, & rained again yesterday. Corn is as green as it can be.

here we have had lots of storms come through lately (halfway between Morehead City and Swansboro NC). I think most areas around here have had plenty of rain. We will be getting more starting tomorrow evening some time, and some wind. I hope its not to bad.

Watching it closely. I live pretty close to Eastern Carteret county. Probably 20 miles from Cape Lookout as the crow flies so here's hoping it stays out to sea.

I am about 25 miles from the coast west of Myrtle Beach. I am dry, could use some rain. I am thankful though for the rain we have had.

East of I-95 has had there share of rain anything west has been hit and miss... It looks like a miss for us that need some rain....

Yes, Scotty, first one of the season, and couldn't have picked a worse time to hit! Beginning 5:00 AM Thursday, MANDATORY evacuation of Hatteras Island, so far, all the rest just nail 'er down and pray for the best. Local merchants all up and down the coast will lose millions this weekend. Millions of vacationers understandably po'd. You drive for miles only to turn around and go back home or try to salvage what you can somewhere else, but you have already spent a fortune in gas. I live in the central part of the state and we need some rain, but likely won't get any from this.

Twenty miles west of Charlotte here. We have had plenty of rain but it has been hit and miss other places. Got some sudex 6 feet tall that should have been cut two weeks ago. Maybe after the storm moves past? Don't expect much from it.

14 miles from the upper SC coast. No worries here. Had recent rains and will probably get a few rain bands and wind gusts but the average thunderstorm does that.

We were hit with one in 1954 when I was in the Army at Ft Bragg. We were lucky we had a radio. It blew over some mobile homes. I don't think the TV carried any news about the storm. Hal

Watchin' it go by right now. Thur. morning.
THey say it shouldn't be all that bad here. Winds to 35, rain not more than about 2 in. But who can say, really?

Take a look at this website. Hal

It wouldn't post as a link.

This hurricane Hazel hit North Carolina in Oct 1954 when I was in the Army at FT Bragg. Here's a link to the damage it did. It blew over a mobile home near Ft Bragg. Hal

Looking at the track it took it looks like were I live the eye was very close to us and FT bragg was well east of it....

In 1954 there may have been only one mobile home near ft bragg...

Between Sanford and Ft Bragg there use to be nuttin (25 miles of desert) I can remember when you could not give away land in that area... It has really built up now and every thing here grows that way... All the big box stores are on that side of town and its 4 lane all the way to ft bragg...

BTW still no rain from the storm  For use to get hammed the storm needs to come in land if it stays on the coast all we will get is a nice day are 2 out of it..

We lived in a mobile home park at Spring Lake, NC
just off Ft Bragg. It had a lot of trailers there.
The Darden family owned it plus an Esso gas station. We bought our trailer and I towed it home after I was discharged. We then rented it for 12years before selling it. I used Murkinson RD that was a back road to Bragg and Fayettville.
My unit was near that road. Hal

In my area of Northwest North Carolina ( Stokes County), currently in very good shape for rainfall on my farm. Blessed with 2-1/2 inches in last two weeks from scattered showers. Had a quarter inch yesterday from the cold front that is chasing Arthur away. However, go just a couple miles away and it is very dry. Went to a farm supply store about 10 miles west of here and a man told me there has been only 4/10 inches in the last six weeks there. He started feeding hay as pastures are dried up. Lawns around houses would burn. Fields of corn in tassel stage was twisted, tobacco short and irregular in size, soybeans short and sickly. Some beans just planted after wheat will not sprout until a good rain. Drought map showing area west of me to be moderate drought.
