Hay Rack , Done , Pic

I got my hay rack done today ! It sat for quite a few years and the bed was rotted away, spindles seized. This one has been on the farm since new, and I remember helping my Grandfather on it the last time the bed got reworked, maybe 40 years ago now. It is 14x7 like it always was,New Holland gear, 4x6 mains, 4x4 crosses and 5/4 decking. I did put tin on top of cross pieces as was suggested by guys on here. New tubes, decent matching tires, bearings all repacked. I am gonna take it down the road for its first job, haul 3 round bales home with the Super H. I am happy with how it came out.

Don't know where you're at in michigan, but jeff badder in ionia sells them really reasonable. Charged me $475 for the last 8x16 I bought. All hardwood and painted. That was 3 years ago. This fellers does look really nice though.

By tin on cross pieces I assume you mean aluminum flashing. I did that on the last one that I rebuilt two years ago, due to it being brought up here. I bet that it will make the deck last a lot longer.

Nice job, both top and bottom. You have a right to show it off. A hay rack is handy to have around even if there isn't hay to haul.

This gives me an idea, given my demented sense of humor.

I have an old steel flair wagon that hasn't moved in 15 or 20 years. I might restore that to perfection and pull it through a parade with a beat up tractor.

I wasn't taking a shot at you mike, was just letting paul know there's a guy in the area that sells them. Didn't know if he was aware.

Well, an hour after that post, I had 2 big rounds on it and had to drag it through a mud hole to get to the cow pasture ! Its a working wagon, not a parade piece but I wanted to do it right anyway.

I have three hay racks and two of them have floors built like that. With boards spaced like that dirt and chaf falls through cracks.I have one that need new floor its getting rotten but can't complain its 38 years old.
