NH 855 Gate Stuck UP.. In Field.. Rain coming

It figures, made first bale, wrapped, unloaded, now the gate will not come back down, Checked hydraulic oil level, it's ok, hydraulics are working on the tractor, gate tries to move, there has to be something preventing it, but I can not find anything, the book shows nothing. Anyone have an idea???? Please help!
 
If you have another tractor nearby just plug it in and see if it's the tractor or the baler.

Like Case Nutty says... I've seen those quick coupler ends go bad and prevent flow.
 
Thanks everyone, it was indeed the couplers, I had never even looked at them other than to make sure they were clean when I plugged them in, the gate went up and down several times ok when I was testing it. I took the ends off my broken 851 and put them on the 855, it works great now. Got the field all baled! Thanks!!! Leo
 
Hi Glad you got it fixed, 1 tip for you if your tractor has the quick release safety couplings on, that you don't need to push or pull a locking collar on to put the male fitting in or can just pull them out.

They can cause the same problem you had with cylinders. the line will go in with pressure on but the ends on the fitting don't open to allow flow down one or both lines depending on pressure.

The regular collar fittings don't usually go together and snap locked unless you bleed the pressure off the hose.
Had this happen with a 664 last year, and a buddy had the same with his swather.

When I pulled the lines, and actually looked at the tips, it was obvious, someone previous to me had drug the tips along the pavement, they were ground pretty bad, which explained the problem, at that point the tough part was getting the pressure off to change them... Yet another item I will not ever forget, always check and or change tips on "New to me Equipment"...
