The simple things in life

Today was not a great day on the farm. I am at the age where the AARP solicitations show up in the mail once a week. Which is to say when I pick up two bucket-fulls of rocks out of the field I feel it in my shoulders in not a good way. Neighbor stopped down needing help with a bad tire which I have no problem with. The only problem is what should have been a ten minute job was a 45 minute job because I had to rob a tire from a machine that I removed the hydraulic cylinder to use on another implement. Turn signal light on the back of the truck goes out. Car will not start. Did I mention my body is hurting?

Anyways, fast forward to six o'clock tonight. The wife gets home and asks what's for dinner and I mention we need to get busy with the ground beef via burgers bought last Friday. Not the wife's favorite thing but she says OK. I get busy frying them up and they did smell good! I pull mine out of the pan and notice a little grease on the bottom of the pan so I work it on the burger with the spatula. As it so happens I bought a a big onion last Friday at the store and I got the urge to cut a quarter inch hunk and put it on the burger. I'll tell you it was really satisfying and when I finished my mood brightened up considerably. Considering the funk I have been in lately I am glad a simple burger could change the day for me. Got me some sirloin and an itch for some stew if tomorrow does not go well!

I am at the age where my shoulders hurt all of the time, and because of that I use other muscles to get the job done and then they hurt.
I had a MRI done on my right shoulder today to find out what is going on.
Those simple little jobs now become a real project.
My feel good food is ice cream.

You're sure right about the simple things. The boys and I finished up all the mulberries that we shook out of the trees last night. A bowl of berries with some half and half with a bit of sugar on top sure is good. Had them on ice cream last night and those were good too.

Know what you mean about AARP.Must get notices from them every month.Just what I need to remind me I"m not so young anymore. The aches and pains
that come with age are just mother natures way of
telling me I am still alive so with that in mind
I accept them and try to keep going. Two open
hearts and a life time of scars are nothing
compared to total silence and a dirt nap.

greg k,

That looks yummy! My grandmother always had berries with cream on toast for breakfast; no wonder she was always upbeat in the morning.

My grandpa and grandma had a mulberry tree. Always like them. She used to make mulberry pie.

The best hamburger I have ever eaten came from this dive. The thread is 94 posts long. It's a good read but, if you don't want to know the details of the place....a lady named Teri was able to re-create the hamburger mixture pretty close.

I have used it. The recipe is spectacular.

Ahhh the pool room hamburger. I remember the ladies in P-Burg getting me or some male to get them for them as it was not proper for a lady to be seen in the poolroom.

IH2444- Fancy meetin' somebody else from P-burg on this site!

Pool Room burgers were the best.

I might know you or at least we know some people in common.

E-mail is open and I hope to hear from you.

Does the hamburger put you to sleep as well? Many evenings when I lay down to sleep my knees and hips burn so bad that sleep is impossible. The Doc gave me Oxycodone which stops the burning but it keeps me awake. Ice cream improves my outlook but does nothing for the pain.

Nope, just relaxes me. This burger just happened to come out better than most which pleased me to no end.

The other stuff you mentioned I am hoping are a ways off in the future. Age-wise I am close to the half-century mark.
