Antique tractor puller

David : that is a real tricky question , first of all the word STOCK has really been stretched. @) years ago I was KY & Tenn state champion 5500lb class with a 44 massey and at that time in the 5500 lb. class the 44 massey and 77 oliver s were the tractor to beat now the yeas have moved up different tractors competing, they let you turn more rpm and different speeds so it all just depends on the driver and what they want to spend. Man with the money is going to be hard to beat

Retired and just looking for some week end fun with an old restored tractor. We have quite a few far malls over her in central texas

Stock? That seems to be a mere suggestion at tractor pulls
anymore, but it would sure depend on the weight class.
Hard to get a JD horizontal twin in a 3500 class for example, but
they do very well in the upper weights with the Oliver S88 etc,
In the lower classes around here the Allis Chalmers do very well.
A Farmall Super A or Super C can get in that weight as well.

Central like how far from CANTON? Make it down there pretty often. Have friends here in Tenn that has a son with a ranch in Weathford so we go down that way some and also like the area 50 miles or so north west of Dallas. Spent some time in Childress last month.

David the trouble with antique tractor pulling is that it has gotten just like the rest of tractor pulling, it is mostly a contest of who is willing to spend the most money on their tractor. There are getting to be guys that have tens of thousands spent on their antique pulling tractor.

The days of having a true stock tractor and pulling are just about gone.

I used to help build some motors for guys but they where pulling supper stock and made no bones about the fact their tractor was NOT stock.

I dislike the guys that modify their antique tractor and want to pull it like it was still stock. Modify it all you want and then pull honest with the other guys that have done the same thing.

anything with a slow first gear. add weights in right places they pull fine. Late John Deere model A, or a 60, 70 always scratch for traction in first gear. farmall mta, 400,450. Oliver 77,88s. moline U, UB, G 4cyl 5star, MH 33-444. allis chlamers wc, wd wd45, d17. all good pullers for stock.

Kinda like "stock" snowmoblie racing used to be. When it first started, you put on a set of carbide skegs, a few studs in the track, went racing, had a good time and were fairly competative. That lasted about 2 years. When it got to the point guys were porting engines and then sandblasting the ports to make them look like factory castings and taking stock exhausts apart, building tuned pipes inside and welding them back together, this ole boy decided that the fun wasn't there anymore and I could find cheaper ways of having fun.

I am going way out on a limb here. But dead stock a 1.5 mph low gear JD B with steel wheels. If you put 38 rear tires. A WD45 Diesel. hands down. A gas will work if you put Diesel or D17 ring and pinion in it. Best deal is to buy a winner. Vic

Using parts designated as factory overbore or "super" kits: it is hard to out hp a moline. A U M-M will compete in stock or low gear pulls anywhere
