Gehl Baler Update

Just a note Randy that it appears the bale size sensor
must be out because I stuck a screwdriver between the
sensor and sprocket and the bale size did not raise on the
monitor. I ordered a new on for $234.00....bout had a heart
attack, but glad I could still get it. Hope it cures the
problem.

One thing I wondered is why the auto tie still didnt work,
even with the size sensor out. It appears that the sensor to
tell the baler to start tying is a different sensor, down lower
on the same cylinder. Its on an aluminum flat bar. I would
have thought that would have still worked and the horn
sound and the auto tie start, but I guess not. Ill find out
when I get the size sensor back on. Thanks a lot for the
help so far. Bob

What happens if you push "Cycle" then "Enter"?
It should tie when you do that no matter how much or how little hay you have in it. I think it has to be on "Auto" to do it though.

Unless every sensor on that thing does exactly what it's supposed to do,in the proper order,it won't put the twine on by just going through the normal "Auto" cycle though. I'm pretty sure that bar on the side doesn't have anything to do with triggering the twine arm. The computer just has to know that the bale size sensor has passed by enough teeth on that sprocket to reach the size bale you've selected on the monitor. That's what lets you select the size by just pushing the buttons on the monitor and not having to adjust anything manually on the baler.

I ran in to a problem with mine today. I got that eight and a half acres rolled up that I had down, but the endgate started popping open enough for the arrow on the monitor to disappear and it shows the gate is open. If I keep bumping the lever until the graph starts to show something, then the latches will hold it alright. A neighbor bought a new 1400 when they came out and that one started doing that. One of the endgate cylinders was blown on the inside and was leaking by letting the other cylinder loosen up too. I've got another pair here on another baler that I know are good. I just wish I knew for sure which one was bad.

You are right. I just push the cycle button and then enter and it goes ahead and ties. I just let it build a pretty good size bale thinking it might give the full alarm and start tying, but it didnt. Guess I will just have to wait til I get the new sensor. Thanks a lot for all your help. I got this baler late last year and didnt get to run it enough to get it soaked into my brain. The baler I had before was older and didnt have the auto/monitor on it. Bob

Any time. I've been running those 75 series balers since 97. Pretty much anything that can go wrong with one has for me.
