New tires

Just bough my very first set of NEW (rear) tires for the old tractor. The set getting replaced was on it when I bought it and I have had it for 10 years now. Guessing they have been on 20-25 years. The tractor doesnt leave the farm much so the tread was still about half but the old sidewalls just gave out. Im sure mounting them will be quite a learning experiance (thankfull to a good friend with a bead breaker that has done the job many times!) I only bought the bias tires and I got a 5 year field hazzard warranty on them, If they last as long as the old ones they wont really be too bad of a cost per year. -guess thats how I look at it to make myself feel better about it! That and it is no good without them so I better take care of the old girl so she will last me.

If they give you a bad time coming off just cut them off close to the bead with a sawzall. then take a cold chisel to cut the bead. No need to spend a lot of time and sweat to save junk.

I never think twice about putting new tires on a old tractor, if the tractor still works well. I have put on three sets of rears in the last 4 years. All went on 40+ year old tractors, no regrets so far. Bruce

That is good advice. I had an old Goodyear S-3 (synthetic rubber from WWII) on my ZA MM I had to cut off. That was even a chore.

Replaced rear tires on my 43 2N last year. Removed ones had a date code from 1968. They were really dried out. A little bit of care and new ones should out live me.
