My son sent me a picture of a restored John Deere 520 with a steel can attached immediately in front of the govenor case on the flywheel side. Probably was made from some moderately thick steel tubing. Has a bottom welded to it, with holes for drainage. Tractor has been passed down in the family, but no one knows what the can is for. When they restored the tractor the can was removed, cleaned, painted, and put back on. Certainly a little larger than a pork and beans can for size, but smaller than a quart fruit jar. I told him it could have been for an pump oil can, small tools, spare spark plugs, who knows? Any ideas what the can might have been used for on a John Deere 520?????? I will pass on what you guys think. Thanks.

Heres my ideas serious and humorous

Cell Phone Holder lol
Snuff Catcher
Tool Box
Partial Umbrella Bracket
Cup Holder
Rock Box
Pistol Holder
Rain Gauge
Toilet Paper Holder (never know when ya gotta go!)
Spare Nut & Bolt Holder
Used Spark Plug Holder

Oil can carrier for oiling chains on various equipment.

Nowadays, guys will also make 'em out of PVC pipe.

Reserve oil tank for hydraulics when using something other than an ordinary cylinder - like a manure loader. Have a JD B with one on the rear connected to the Powr-Trol, to provide enough oil to run up a New Idea - Horn loader with double extension cylinders. Probably holds a bit more than a gallon of oil. Uncle had a similar one on his JD 50.
