The original subject was "Need help with timing engine".

My tractor was loosing oil preasure at one time so i got a new oil pump now the oil light will not go off can sombody tell me what could be the problem

Yes but the oil pump is pumping if i take the oil sending unit off ut shoots oil everywere but if i put it back on the oil light comes on and will not go off its not over heating im just scared to run it because of the oil light stays on

I would check it with a gauge where the oil sending unit is. Might be the sender its self or possibly in the wiring to the light.

So are you still trying to get oil pressure after installing the oil pump? Or has the tractor been used for some amount of time after a new pump was installed and now the oil light has come on. Strange that it developed 20 - 30 psi but then dropped to zero? What is the make and model of the tractor? Does the rpm the engine is running change the pressure you are seeing on the gauge?

I put the pump in 3 weeks ago and has not been used acept test driving and the light been on ever sense i put the pump in but seems to get good preasure but light is still on i was wondering if my oil was to thin or if i need to get another oil sending unit

It runs great drives off and does not miss a beat does not over heat but the oil light will come on in the process

We always set the new oil pump in a container of fresh engine oil and rotate the gear until oil would pump out oil, it doesn't take much to prime it. Then install the pump. Hal

Ohh ok but i can take the oil sending off and it shoots oil all over the place but the light will not go off

Back one step.

Did you think the tractor was losing oil pressure before because the light was on? Is so it may have been the sender all along.

Think I would get to the bottom of this before any more damage occurs. Driving with the light is on is not good! Always trust your instruments!

I would put the gauge back on and place it where you can see it while driving.

If it gets good pressure when the engine is cold, and drops off to very low or nothing when idling, there are 2 possibilities:
1. There is an internal oil leak, either worn engine bearings or something has come loose letting the oil leak internally instead of building proper pressure.
2. The bypass valve is stuck open or the spring is broken. Not knowing what you're working on, the bypass valve could be in the oil pump and would have been replaced with the pump. Some engines have the bypass valve mounted elsewhere in the engine.

Another possibility, if the engine has a "bypass" type oil filter, it takes a special restricted flow filter. If it was replaced with a full flow filter, it will have little or no oil pressure.

If the oil pressure is intermittent, as in has good oil pressure, then drops to nothing, then comes back up, there could be a problem in the oil pick up screen. It could be clogged, out of position, or loose and sucking air. Some have floating pick up screens. It could be stuck in the up position or sucking air around the pivot.

You mentioned too thin oil... Again, don't know what engine you have. Older engines were designed for heavier oil, 30 weight, 15w 40, not the light stuff in modern engines.

Install a pressure gauge where that sending unit was installed. Then see how much oil pressure you have. Hal

That's good oil pressure. Your oil pressure sending unit may be defective. Check it with a multimeter set on ohms. With the engine off there should be continuity shown on your meter. Once the engine is started you shouldn't have continuity as this will kill the idiot light. Hal

A sender off a Massey may or may not work. Most older senders have 1/8" male pipe threads but your Deutz is German, meaning metric fittings so I don't know if the Massey sender will screw into the Deutz hole. If it fits, screw the Massey sender in and see what happens. Personally, I would mount a manual gauge in a location where you can see it and forget the light. On one of my tractors I mounted a manual oil gauge in front of the lower right side front cab window, outside the cab in a place where I can glance down and check it once in awhile just to make me feel good. The electric gauge scared the he!! out of me once when it lost connection and went to zero while I was plowing. The pressure was still there but the gauge didn't show it. That's when the manual gauge went in front of the cab window. Jim

tractor guy I have a duetz D6006 and when I make 2or3 passes bush hogging it starts to put out alot of black smoke like its over flowing with fuel I took the pump apart a few weeks ago and the spring a float were laying to the side I put it back they its supposed to be...Could I need a new fuel pump
