Hows the hay crop in your area?

Wondering how everybodys hay crop is doing this year? Going to be the earliest I've ever mowed my 1st cutting. Had a real wet spring and then some high temps the last few weeks here in northern michigan. Hoping the rain holds off to the get the ball rolling here. Will post some photos once I get into the fields.

Cool weather and too few good stretches of dry weather here. Baled hay is a couple weeks late and yield is about %75 of normal.

Here in NAR we are at least 2 weeks behind. The hay looks good but the bermuda grass is behind. We have been cooler than normal and very wet. We have received over 8" of rain in June and it's rained some all but one day in June. What hay I have baled has turned out good, off of 40 acres I've baled 132 1200# bales. That's less than last year but not a bad average for a 1st cutting.

It would be in the barn if I had not gotten hung up on the corn planting. Now it rains every third day...I don't risk it. Too much money there to have it soaked.

I would have said yeilds were about normal for this area. However the rains have delayed the 1st. cutting and now the yeilds are very heavy. IF we ever get it cut, the protien content is gonna be way down, though.

A little better than last year here in the south central lp of michigan. Ended up with about 1.3 ton of dry baled grass alfalfa mix hay per acre. Had buds but nothing had bloomed yet.

Hay looks pretty good around me (SW Michigan.) Unfortunately, some people never learn. Last year a guy close by mowed about 100-plus acres of alfalfa. It got rained on. This year he did the same thing. Some guys just don't watch the weather reports, I guess.

Same here, don't want to stay dry long enough to put it up! Got 8-10 acres on the ground right now and hopin the rain on Sunday holds off 'til late afternoon!

3-4 days? Hell it should be put up. We are getting predictions of rain every other day here. I just dropped 20 acres after work last night - had 1/2 inch of rain yesterday morning. I will be raking and baling(?) tonight because it is supposed to rain again Saturday afternoon.

Last year was the best year ever for brome in my area - I'm looking at half what I got last year. The spring was extremely dry (until late May) and when it wasn't 90 degrees and hot it was below freezing at night and cold (not cool) during the day.

Only about 20% of fields have had a 1st cut taken, usually by now most folks have a 1st cut. Yield is about 50% of normal volume on the fields cut so far. Has been very dry, but we've had a few rains recently which will help things greatly. My 1st cut will be about a month late but from the looks of the fields the volume will be good.

beyond prime.

Late season, but great conditions for the grass. alternating rain/sun.

Had one good window and got to work all the kinks out of the equipment on one small field.

Wish we could have done more, but glad we didn't attempt it. Lots of equipment issues.

Will try to get as much as we can in the next 3 day window. Hopefully Sunday - Tuesday.

That's the difference in where you are. In the wet, cool, humid NE we need at least 3 days, often 5, to make hay. On very rare occasions you get the weather where you can cut one day and bale the next. Moisture dissipates a lot quicker in 30% humidity than 100%!

Running a week or so behind. Hard to get it between the rains.
So far yield is close to average. Still have some first crop to get done.
We do everything small squares.
