Company trucks got 85000 --120000 on steering

till they started cupping an were than put on trailers.They would have lot of tread on. New drive ones on new truck i drove had 342000 an still had 50000 left when i got new truck. They were all long distance with average showing on computer read out 48% load. They were Good Year an i had truck from new.
 

I used to get about 30,000 on my fronts and 20,000 on rears on my triaxle dump, but then it carried a lot more weight.
 
I generally put 100000 on my steers. Over that they begin to knot up, ribbon wear, dip out etc... They are then pulled and put on a trailer. the most I have ever gotten was 165000, we had one tractor that would consistently get longer wear than the others. The driver said it was in the operator! Brand does not seem to matter, except for chinese made, I do not like them. The chinese only want to sell to you one time, they do not care if you come back or not.
 
The "fakeliner" I am currently driving has 125,00 mi. on it as of today. Front tires are 60% or so; rear are near 80%. Company truck and we have our own shops. They are meticulous about front end and all wheel alignments.
 
I got a little over 300,000 miles out of my last set of steers. Michelin XFE 385/65R22.5. Note that I had the tread buffed flat twice and regrooved once. I ran them at 82psi and never exceeded 62 mph either.
 
Peterbilt 379 road tractor. Anything over 100,000 on steers is good. They generally start to wear funny by then. 250-300,000 on drives.
 
80-100K. By then I'll need a trailer tire so it's a good reason to buy new steer tires. I run local. Our roads are not great with lots debris so I buy more tires that if I was on the open road.
 
Jon, I drove a Volvo day cab for about 10 years. Found that the Volvos are a bit tougher than average on the steers. Never really found a reason why. Freightliners and Navistars seemed to get a lot better mileage out of steers. Just my observation.
 
The tandem I drive had 150,000 on it and I am on the third set of steer tires and second set of drive tires. Lots of town driving and heavy all of the time.
