I usually repair my flats. Today I was going to pick up my tractor where I last used it Monday, and go to another job. My plans fell apart when I got there one of the fronts was flat. I was a long ways from home. I took it to a truck tire shop. They charged me almost 27.00. Is this the going rate now days? Stan

tube or tubeless? size...ie...BIG or car/pickup truck size? Did you wait for it or drop it off for awhile? and last but not least...did you get to WATCH/supervise te repair?

I called about 2 days ago to have the inner tube replaced on the front tire of my Ford 4000. The inner tube was supposed to be $13. If I wanted them to dismount and remount it, the total cost, with the tube, would be $20.

I just bought the tube and he gave it to me for $10.

It was a 16 inch tubless. I did not watch. They did it right away. So that was good. I was in and out in 20 minutes. stan

Gateway Tire charges nothing to fix a flat on a car, pickup, lawnmower, wheelbarrow, etc., even the fronts on my JD 1020 and my 8N. They figure they'll eventually get their money back in new business. Guess it goes without saying that's where I buy new tires.

Had a flat on the rake this morning. To busy to mess with it so had my wife run the tire to the tire shop. $22 to patch it.

local shops around here get 1.00 per inche of rim,...15 inche rim = 15.00 plus patch....sounds like they're in the ballpark

Sounds high, But if you look at overhead, building, salaries, insurance, etc. It is not really that bad. I had a flat on a car recently, and wathed the man fix it... he did the new type patch, ground the rubber, did a lot of steps. Took almost half an hour, plus supplies, cost 25 dollars. He is not getting rich at that rate, I thougt it was a fair price.

Local tire guy charged Dad $30 each to change the tires out on the grain drill.

They were 20" truck tires, and he worked like a dog to get them changed. After watching that, Dad considered it $60 well spent.

If nuttin else it was worth 20 for the convenience... All in said and done with the tax man he will be lucky to profit $5.... Tire repair is a loss leader its value added to the service. The money is in new tire sales were he would make 10 to 20 times that 5 in the same amount of time....

Had a flat on a Bobcat. Took it off and took it into the local gas station. I was ready for $20-$30. The guy charged me $5. He charges $2.50 for a flat on the car - even if he removes it.

Had a couple lawn mower tubes patched. $17. The cheapskate in me thought that was a tad high. I had one hole circled. But, I didn't have a patch kit or the time. Not complaining.

Typically Les Schwab will do mine for free if I am not in a hurry. They probably have slow times, and instead of the help sitting around they can turn it into a practice session for the newbies...
