way OT handy home owners

bought our home 10 yrs ago. since then we have insulated the attic with blown insulation. We put in the foam vents at the eves. Since this time on the NORTH side only of our outside wall ceilings we are getting the black mold or brown spots no more than 1 foot in from the wall. Any suggestions as to why. We clean it easily with a bleach solution but it returns within 3 months. I am hoping one of you nice gents have heard of this situation and maybe a permenant solution. Thank you for any help in advance.

That part of your ceiling will obviously be the coldest part because the insulation is thinnest there. Did you also do some tightening up like weather stripping and tighter windows? If so it could be simply elevated moisture in the house, and you may need a heat recovery ventilator.

The mold on the north side is common where I live. It's cased by high humidity. More common on vinyl siding than on brick siding.

The summers we had very little rain and no dew on grass in morning, the mold wasn't there.

In my opinion, attic insulation has nothing to do with mold.

Try applying bleach and don't wash it off, let it dry. I've done that for years on my rental properties with no problems.

Bet you will find your siding is wet in the morning.
