had head done pulled pistons new rings and rod bearings put it back together set tappets now will not run. not getting gas no suction at carb intake. what could be wrong? did nothing with crank or cam, any ideas would be great.

put piston 1 at tdc on compression stroke.

Remove plug - figure out a way to stick an air compressor blow gun in the plug hole tightly and fill the cylinder.

You should get a feel for what's going on when you do that.

If a valve is open you might be able to hear the air rushing out the carb or exhaust.

And if air is rushing out - double check the valve lash. There should be a gap. If not, that's your problem. but if there is -the airs getting out somehow.

Check both cylinders, see if it's the same on both, or just one side.

Double check your valve adjustment. Turn the engine over slowly until the L.H. intake valve just closes, then on until the "L.H. Impulse" mark is horizontal. Check valve clearance on the L.H. cylinder. Then rotate 1/2 turn and check the R.H. cylinder valve clearance.

Just a dumb question.......but did you stagger the gap in the rings? If the gaps are all lined up,........no suction in the cyl.

thank you all for your ideas, found problem, pulled carb spun over still no suction tried a couple more times all of a sudden I had it,wondered what in the world. installed carb tried it started up. buddy standing ther seen something fly out of stack, pieces of gasket, when I made carb and manifold gasket with hammer center went into manifold and blocked air, just in to big a hurry once in a while, scrathed my head on that for about two days
