Someone posed a ? here about running a hot wire jumper through pvc to charge another fence. I cannot find that thread. Anyone remember the thread? I wanted to see the ideas offered?

Don't know about the thread, but I've run the expensive insulated electric fence wire in pvc pipe underground at gaps. Just running bare wire in pvc pipe dosen't work too well IME.

I was the guilty party on asking about the pvc on that thread.

You should use the wire made for the task. Like the one from TSC. As I recall, the fencer puts out about 15,000 volts although a short duration. Extension cords and the like are made for about 500 volts. The insulation is not designed for 15000 volts. even then I would put it in the PVC just to protect it from mechanical abrasion. I once got a coil of Auto ignition wire to run from the fencer underground, and inside a plastic pipe for a short distance

Yes, you want to use that wire that's made for the fencer if you're going to run it underground. The PVC is to protect it. I've seen that heavy jacket fencer wire melt where the jacket cracked and the spark could jump to ground. It's not bulletproof.

Been running hot wires through PVC pipes for years. Use them under gates. Always have used 12 1/2 guage bare wire - never had a bit of problems. I even have used that Da** "goucho" wire, and IT works great (guy who had this place before me had MILES of it stretched out. Pretty WORTHLESS stuff...).

The expensive insulated fence wire works perfectly fine buried directly. No need for PVC.

Dunno what your beef with the gaucho wire is. Dad loves the stuff. Sharp. Stays tight. Doesn't rust. Keeps the animals in that should be in, and out that should be out.
