Dash plastic question

Thought about putting this over on Deere but I am sure someone else has dealt with it, too.

The kill knob on the 4440 has broken out the dash. I have tried being good to it, but others driving it during haying didn't help. The dash plastic has cracked all of the way around the pull out in every direction. It was washered up years ago but I can't put on bigger washers due to the small recess the knob is in. I am considering relocating it completely unless someone has another idea. I'm sure it has to be close - I bet they didn't give me lots of extra cable.
 
Is there room to add a piece of sheet metal to spread the load? Maybe 1/8 inch sheet bolted in place? I doubt that relocation is possible- pretty crowded in there. Salvage yards sell used panels, but check that all screw mtg holes are good. I"ve looked at some with the hole lug chipped out and they still want bucks for the piece. Changing them is a PITA- BTDT. Not worth changing if the mounts are not good.
 
Is there any way to glue it together. I used some Goop glue to fix a weed eater gas cap that had cracked about 3/4 the way around. Let it set several days and no leaks.
 
Or do what I did with my 4040 and trade it for a White. lol

Seriously though,I fix plastic things like that with fiberglass repair. Put on the epoxy,a couple of layers of the cloth,sand it down,drill an new hole and paint it. You'll never know it was cracked. It's that or a plastic welder. I have one of those too,but I don't know if you'll want to spend the money on one just for a cracked dash.
 
Just replace the cable and the dash plastic and it will be good for another 30 years. Trying to fix the plastic without replacing the cable is just a waste of time.
 
My 4430 did that a few years ago as well. It was washered up but finally pulled through anyway. I ended up just putting a new dash on.
