Country DJ just played that a few minutes ago. It's a college station that plays more classic country than new stuff. He palyed Hank Snow, Hank Williams , then that. Good stuff . He'll probably play Harper Valley PTA today too.
 
Good song, has several mysteries in it, not just whatever was thrown off the bridge.... Compares what is shocking/devastating to a person, and is merely interesting tidbit to the rest of the room, life goes on, or life sketches to a halt.....

Only saw the TV movie when it first came out, don't much remember it, didnt care for it is all I remember.

Song is good tho.

Another mystery- it was a "sleepy, dusty delta day", but "Mama hollered out the back door, y'all remember to wipe your feet." Don't recall having to wipe my feet on a dusty day.

And what about the song caused Harvey2 to go Scandehoovian again? I thought we were done with that.
 
I was out chopping cotton and my brother was baling hay. Just being picky (cotton pickin picky).

I thought we knew what they were throwing off the bridge? She said they were picking flowers and dropping them in to the water off the bridge.
 
That song and a coupe more from the late 70's, "Seventeen" by Janis Ian and "All by Myself" by whatshisname, were always referred to as "suicide music" in my area. Get a buncha half drunk folks together and start playing that stuff and someone is bound to get so depressed they'll start talking about dying... :shock:
