rendering plant update

The owner called me around noon today. Said he'd be over himself to take care of the problem. Said he'd be there in an hour or two. Showed up in 45 min. He also called his foreman of this location and he was here. They just left 1 hr ago and all smell is gone. They stopped at my house and were very apologetic. No more smell. He told me to call him at any time any day and let him know if there were any more problems. He's not here all the time so I think it's a way of checking up. Really impressed me with the way he handled this. As of now, problem solved and I feel like I owe him at this point. Hope he wasn't blowing wind up my skirt but it didn't seem like it. Thanks for everyone's imput.

We've had a rendering plant here for many, many years. Then we got a commercial bakery making breads. It smelled like bacon and biscuits every morning when I drove into to work(not quite). Over the years processing has improved greatly. We still smell the bakery a little, but not the rendering works. Lots better than years ago.

Great!! But how did they do it? Was there a solution in the works that simply wasn't being carried through?

Just curious...

It sounded like everything wasn't taken care of when it was
supposed to be. The owner said they used alot of bleach
today. We'll see. I hope this success isn't short lived. Don't
think it is though, he really seems to care.

I believe that's why his foreman was there too. Guessing his fault. That's only speculation though.

Just goes to show you that you did the right thing by addressing it with them first instead of running to the govt. I applaud you for that. And he probably thinks he owes you for not doing that as he could have had to pay some major fines. Glad it worked out for you.

After almost 20 years I wish they could find a way to make our local rendering plant not stink. Burnt feathers is one smell I don't think a guy can ever get over.

That's really nice to hear. A responsible businessman. What a great idea! A letter of praise to the local paper or something like that should be in order.

Sound great. In return I would do everything I could to make him happy, like plowing drive in winter, mowing grass for him or trying my best to stay on his good side. Be a good neighbor.

(quoted from post at 17:15:44 06/02/14) Well I wouldn't complain about the smell of a bakery. The rendering plant is a different matter though.

Oh yeah! A real bakery, the turpentine smell in a cabinet shop, Hoppes #9 solvent....good smells.
