field tiling

Had some tiling done yesterday, a short run was put between a couple trees. Tile man said to put non perf tile in, but drainage was main issue, he said he heard putting a copper wire in with tile would keep roots at bay. Has anyone of such a "story" if so does it work? To keep it tractor related, I use tractors to operate the land. thanks in advance Pete

what did it cost per foot (if that's the way its billed) to have the tile installed if you don't mine me asking. No fields in my area have tile and I have 1 field that I'm thinking about having done and have no clue what it would cost, I understand it can vary from field to field with depts. and other varibles.

Ether side of a buck a foot to put in 4 inch tile. Short runs with lots of hookups, going through deeper ridges, and bigger mains will cost more.

Copper sulfate can clear out hair roots, the idea of a copper wire might maybe work, routing the tile away from the trees and running non perf near the trees is far better. You need to get past the drip line of the trees some and THRN go back to perf tile. If the tile ended in the trees, at least it will only affect the tree area if they clog it. I'd be worried if the tile went to other areas upstream, if the roots plug it you have a mess.

I would definately use solid tile around trees. They will seek out the cracks for water and the next thing, you have a plugged tile and it will not take long. My MIL had basement drainage problems because of popular tree next to the tile funally put in solid tile to get past them. Copper may work but solid tile is for sure.

When I was a kid I worked at a golf course and all the tile got copper wire run thru it. The course had lots of trees and we never had plugged tile. Jim
