It figures - Son's MF 65

A while back I posted a pic of the MF 65 someone gave my son. All we have to do is get it off the ranch. All 4 tires were chewed up and my rears wouldn't fit so we brought the rears back to put tires on them. One is fine, the other is eaten up pretty bad. They are 11 X 28, 4 rail power adjust (spinout). Can't find a used one and a new one is $$$$. Gonna see how good I am at welding.

You've probably got it dismounted, heard this before but in case not here's a safety reminder for all, regarding wheels, tires and welding.

Looked like a nice find, hopefully won't be long before you get it running again.

I've welded quite a few wheels over the years. Just make sure the edges of your patches are ground smooth and any high spots on the weld also. You should be fine if you do. You can also use an old tube as a liner for protection.

most wheels are interchangeable amogst all rainbow of colors ,, find a salvage yard ,, elmers, bob lee ,, ruscha ,,, all will ship reasonably

I appreciate all the responses. I've checked 2 yards that I've used before, B and M in Taylor and The Gap in Cransfill Gap. No luck but will followup with the other suggestions. Right now we just want to get the tractor home so we can check out the rest of it. Hopefully y'all will see a pic of it under the shed soon.

thanks for adding this video, i learned something that i would never had considered as a danger. you should put this in it's own post, or if you don't want to, can i ?

Go ahead, they're probably tired of me posting it anyway LOL !

That is a huge benefit of this site, learning tips on how to be safe, especially if its something you did not know before. Its also reminder, to have that mindset, raising awareness.

Glad I did post it, now thinking you guys recently got a welder. Anytime one is new to something, seems there's more of a chance of getting hurt. It was always true on large construction sites, someone new on site, you always watch out for that person.

A simple thing to remember with a welder and say a cutting torch, be extremely cautious around anything that is or could be a pressure vessel, so like in the video a wheel and tire is just that.

I'll admit I've certainly learned about a few things from others here and I'm better/safer for it today!!!! Huge benefit of this site, sharing of safety information.

Things like wheels and tires or how about batteries, with sulfuric gas/explosions when the vent/caps are clogged and its overcharged or an internal buss-bar arc's. Acetylene is unstable over 15 PSI,(cutting torch, how a R.O.P.S system works, seat with a seat belt and an engineered roll over protection structure, you have to click that belt in place, if not the system is negated and its likely you'll get injured. Hearing and eye protection, fall protection. How about split rims, now there's another extremely dangerous assembly to deal with.

Its probably too risky for a site like this to have a safety section, given the litigious society we live in, but simple things like the above, if they could be indemnified from any liability, just getting the word out, may just save an unsuspecting person from, injury or worse.

I have a set of 28" spinouts & I"m in Palestine, TX---My email"s open or you can call me at 903 729 8349----Thanks

thanks Billy NY
i posted a tire safety tip post. maybe i should make up a list of safety tips and post one a week or something. i may bore some to tears and irritate others, but if it saves a limb or life it would be worth it. :)

Its a good idea, maybe you could even speak with the moderators here, as to suitable/acceptable safety information/tips that could be allowed here in its own section or within the general content on the forums, just for the sole purpose of awareness. I've posted that one numerous times over the years. Using Jon F's (MN) response to where you just posted it, as an example, he states he was unaware of this pyrolysis scenario and its that kind of dissemination of safety information that may save someone from serious injury or worse.

There has been many discussions in regards to safety with all kinds of things surrounding tractors, equipment, buildings, transportation/shipping/trucking and beyond, and I know this gets complicated, it could have legal implications, liabilities , so I am not sure if YT could indemnify themselves regarding safety content, language used, disclaimers etc. In simple terms, with common safety protocol, such as the pyrolysis video, its just an awareness.

If you have ever read John T's posts, (country lawyer/retired electrical engineer) he always disclaims something, though his advice may be completely accurate, on point, precise, something is always said at the end, seek a competent attorney or electrical engineer, designer, distinguishing the content written, from any formal legalities or binding/litigious scenarios, just opinion, discussion purposes only, those posts by him are always informative and technical, very helpful, but a line is drawn so there is no comeback, and rightfully so, and the content has been allowed here just the same. Just using that as an example, there are many others, just it seems to work, and is in simple layman's (layperson to be gender correct LOL !) terms

Maybe it just stays simple, solely for raising awareness of the common safety risks associated with antique tractors, and that's it, YT is in no way responsible, its just the intent in good faith by concerned participants, that all are aware of hazards and that information is shared solely for the benefit of this awareness. I'm all for it, safety is of utmost concern to every person on this planet. I think it would be beneficial, but that's just one obscure opinion LOL !

yes, you have some good ideas and concerns. i gotta start somewhere so i think making up a list. and then getting more info on each subject.
over on the 9n,29,8n forum, there is a guy bruce(va) that made up "75 tips". i think that would be a way to start, maybe get John T to make a disclaimer for it.
