That is a lawn mower James, not a true Bush Hog rough cut mower. So the answer is NO if you going to mow rough grass-weeds,the M is short 12-20HP.

Well, I expect that depends on just what you're mowing.

I've pulled a 5' Woods behind my 18 HP JD750 for 26 years. Had to gear right down in the big stuff, but it always gets it done.

I have hogged down crab apple trees, & red brush
taller than me on the tractor, had to be in low
gear. Real tall cane grass your in low too.
But average everyday short grass & lite brush
2nd gear without any issues...

I use a 5' Bush Hog behind my JD 950. Cut behind fencelines with it around my hayfield and horse pasture, full of willows. I've run through a gob of 2" willows and never looked back. Can't imagine an M not pullin that load pretty well.

Sorry, my mistake.

Thought that the <a href="http://www.stonesfarmservice.com/pages/Brochures/UnitDetail/45806">Bush Hog FTH 600</a> was a 5ft mower.

The ONLY thing those mowers are sold for by Bush Hog dealers are for lawn mowing and light mowing.First sapling or rough mowing job and you do a rebuild or buy a good single rotor machine. But to each his own I guess.

For the saplings and rough mowing jobs we use the <a href="http://youtu.be/K90WAt5gS0w">Corsicana 7ft rotary cutter</a>.

I was just erring on the safe side because there are too many people out there that will look at your picture and think wow I can go out and mow my brush with my little M and 3 rotor "Bush Hog".

I'm sure the M can handle a pull type 5ft finish mower, but a 3 point, 5ft rotary mower is a different story. Even if you had a 3pt on a M, they are so light in the front I don't think it would pick it up. I had to add a 200lb weight on the front of mine to counterbalance the M51 sickle mower.

You're underpowered but if you have flat land and are mowing pastures with a few weeds you'll be fine.On the other hand if you're going to be on hills and heavy cutting it won't work.BTW a pull type cutter is better with a small tractor than a 3pt as far as how well it can handle it.

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, not very well. I put many hours in on a 1956 JD 420 with a 5 foot bushhog. A 420 is pretty much a slightly newer, rowcrop version of an M. It's about the same HP. It will do it but you may have to cut half swaths in heaver stuff and it may not handle slopes very well. Definitely do not cut cross slope on anything more than a little steep.
