I have a Farmall A that starts right away. The problem is that I can't keep it started. It runs for a minute or two and then cuts out. Anyone have any ideas for me.

Make sure that your gas line is clean from any debris and is turned on. Enough gas dribbles thru to get started when that's gone it quits.Bowl fills and the same thing again. Let it run free from carb bowl drain to be sure for 20/30 seconds. Also make sure vent is clear on tank cap. Does not appear to be a coil or condenser problem.

Disconnect the gas line at the carburetor to see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. Use a clean container to catch the gas. If there's just a trickle of gas you have blockage somewhere between your gas tank and carburetor. If there's full stream of gas remove the tube fitting where gas line connects and look for a screen that may be plugged with dirt or rust. If that looks ok you probably need to clean your carburetor using carburetor cleaner and blowing out the jets with air. Hal

Start eliminating things. I'll bet it is a fuel problem also. Use an old mower tank to rig up a temporary fuel tank. I'll bet it runs just fine then.

What does the inside of the fuel tank look like? Do you have something plugging the standpipe of the sediment bowl?

Hi, your problem is the same as the one that happened to mine. Remove the gas line where it's connected to the bottom of the gas tank. Push a pieces of wire through the opening and let the gas run feely for a couple of seconds into a container. The gas line is clogged, somewhere's in the system. Easy fix. Cheers, Murray

The most common fuel blockage problem is the screen inside the tank for those so equipped. If not so equipped the same crud will move along and plug somewhere else down stream. Most of the crud in tanks is easily cleaned out by siphoning.

When you get it fixed, put a screen in the sediment bowl. Also put some Marvel oil with your gas even if you line your gas tank.
