As a diabetic, it is going to take a little more time than usual to heal. Non diabetics, healing will go faster using a salt water mouth wash solution does help, but my mouth is still sore.I am bound and determined to use my teeth when the mouth heals up, I can eat most everything now except pickles. What I miss the most is the flavor of food when the uppers are put in. My last visit with the dentist, they did polish out the tops so they weren't quite as thick, been googling tooth extractions and diabetes. Seems like it is going to be a little over 30 days for enough healing to be able to start using my choppers. I was wondering if other diabetics has had that problem here on yesterdays tractors?

Teeth sure look nice when I got them in,however its been short stints up til now. I have to have them ready when the corn shows on the cob and apples show on the tree.I hope it's not wishful thinking to be able to eat corn on the cob, apples, cucumbers and radishes.

The garden is coming along nicely, lots of plantings are showing their heads thru the soil.So it's a race to see which gets ready first, teeth or fresh garden veggies.

The eye surgeon is coming down from Ashland to evaluate the cataracts in June 23rd,as of now my eyesight is closing down due to the cataracts. It will be nice to see again,so my son don't have to read everything to me,bless his heart. I don't think the diabetes will be a deterrent, at least I hope not. It is one he@@ of a nasty disease, anyway I would appreciate any information from you folks,if you are diabetic and undergone both dental and eye procedures you have gone thru with success. Would appreciate hearing about it.

Lou: My wife is a very bad diabetic. She has had false teeth now for several years. It took her 4-6 weeks to get her gums healed up/toughen up enough to wear the plates very long. She has to be very diligent about keeping any thing from under the plates or she will get blisters in her mouth. Then they heal slowly. She has had to not wear her plates for weeks to allow the blisters to heal.

As for your eyes. If it is just cataracts then you should not have much trouble but many diabetics have vein issues in their eyes that cause the trouble. That is not easy to do anything with.

Hope you get those teeth all ready to go for the fresh harvest it sounds like you will have.

I was diagnosed Type 2 8or 9 years ago but could have been longer since I hadn't had a physical for some time. Got cataracts on both eyes at once. Got so I couldn't make out a dark colored car in front of me till the brake lights came on. Head light glare was even worse. I had to ride to work with a friend the last few weeks before my surgeries. So far no retina damage but I see the ophthalmologist once a year. I also have some neuropathy in the feet. Feels like I'm wearing tight socks all the time and like they're in a bucket of ice water sometimes. Watch your diet, exercise helps a lot.

Mike. Thank you for your reply. Seems like diabetics end up with neuropathy, which in it's self is a terrible illness that can't be treated. I have bi-ateral in both legs and it's creeping into the hands. Trying to regain some features I use to have, like sight ,hearing, and choppers. Bless your heart for sharing your post with me. I can tell I'm not alone.

Jd. Yor post is greatly appreciated. Sounds like youe wife has gone through the waiting period for the plates. I was told it would be about 30 days before the healing was sufficiant to start using the teeth. Bless your wife's heart and yours for sharing your trials and tribulations with me. I will know more abou the eyes come june. Sure would love to be able to read again. Keeping my fingers crossed. .
Best reguards to you and the Mrs.

Don't know much about diabetes or dentures but cataract surgery is amazing. I did a quite a bit of worrying about that for nothing. First thing I noticed after was bark on trees, trees used to look like a big brown stick with a bush on top, now limbs and bark. Fences were just posts, now they got wire, amazing.
Not much more discomfort after surgery than an eye lash in your eye for a day.

Gab.Thank you for your reply!I'm looking forward to the evaluation ,I sure hope he decides in my favor to have the cataracts removed so I can see things as they are. Seems like at 79 I had to wait until the cataracts were ready to be removed. Was a long wait as it seemed. Thank you once again as I truly appreciate ALL the replys . Regards . LOU.

sounds like the day I put my first pair of glasses on. (very near-sighted)

Amazing to see so much detail. Funny, first thing I noticed were the details in the trees too - branches, and individual leaves. Always knew they were there of course, but amazing to see them from a distance for the first time.

Lou, try to keep your BS below 200 and you will heal faster. I know some drs want you at 100 but that is impossible. My drs that I have gone to over the years always said that when gluclose attaches to the blood that it streaches the veins and arteries. They do not pump as well because continual expansion takes out the elasticity. Go luck with the eyes.

Frank, thanks for the reply. Appreciate it. Didn't know why a diabetic should try and keep their Blood sugar below 120. What helps me survive is 1 baby aspirin and 1/2 penicillin tablet daily. Penicillin tablet is for throat problems that affect the spinal oasis. The aspirin is a great blood thiner and it showed when the teeth came out. I'm beginning to heal up some. Washing my mouth out with salt water works for me. Better then soap, mothers remedy for bad language. lol.Great informative replies like yours. Thanks ever so Much.
