Picked up my Dodge 3500 from the dealer today. I had to have the check engine light gone before I could get a smog check. So for a little over 2,000.00 I got my truck to pass the smog check. I was told the problem was the over drive clutches were bad. This sent a error to the computer causing it to go bad. Don't know about these things, I just believed the dealer. I was using my F150 to haul my tractor for over a week. It did the job, but being a 6 it could have used a few more ponies. With two new trailer tires this week, and the truck repairs I probably didn't make anything this week. Next week should be better. At least I have a good tax deduction. Stan

Hell would freeze over before I gave a dealer $2000 for a smog test. I'm in New York state and am still waiting for one more reading to say OK on my Buick.
I would ask to see the old parts. But, I do not know if that would do any good. There is one dealer here that shows the same parts to everyone.

In California it is not unusual to spend this kind of money to get a 8 to 12 years old vehicle to pass smog check.

In many counties- including Warren. You know, where the refineries are.
Crawford is just a visual check.
Erie has a visual and gas cap check.
I heard Ohio was getting rid of theirs.
Nebraska's cool. As long as you're not violating any local noise ordinances, they still don't really give a flying monkey fart.

I was considering not even renewing my truck license. Problem with that is they can tow your vehicle if you get stopped . Then you are facing big towing fees, and still need to smog the vehicle. I tell you it just aint right. Stan
