Possible JD 2010 Buy TODAY-Need Advice Please

Looking to possibly make an offer today on a JD 2010 with loader and backhoe and would appreciate advice.

I have done a look at the average listing price and it"s $5141, but the average included one listing at $80,000 (no that is not an accidental extra zero in there) so that skews the average wayyyyy up.

I found one online on Tractor House for $4,295 with everything working except a leaking cylinder but still works.

These guys are asking $6K, the backhoe doesn"t hold on center (I"m not familiar with what holds a backhoe in center and would appreciate someone telling me what the possible cause, repair of this would be), it is missing all of it"s gauges, the guy said he got ------ off and threw the panel away, he has kluged all sorts of electrical such as a kill switch and having to reach into the panel to hold the ignition while turning the key, and most importantly, no brakes.

On the up side, none of the cylinders appear to be leaking, no smoke on start up, idles well, all the hydraulics work, although some of the hoses look pretty iffy. The unit looks fairly clean, one leaking rear tire.

So with all that in mind, I"m using the $4,295 as my top starting point, and that is a dealer price. The brakes work on that unit as well. I"m thinking of offering between $3,200 and $3,400.

Fair? Am I out to lunch? I figure $1,000 to get it back up to par including the brakes, is that a safe number?

I"m calling them later today so of course it"s a long weekend for some and I imagine I may not get much feedback, but any is appreciated.

Thanks

i've got my eye peeled for a backhoe also and i would pass on it unless you can get it for 2, 2.5k, your gonna have closer to 2k to get it working right and you got a whole lot of tinkering to do before you ever get to use it. just saying

I side with Jennifer.
To much work to be done to get it working right for the asking money.
2 grand tops.

Thanks jennifer408. It actually is working and it seems to be working well, except for the brakes, which he uses the bucket to stop and hold, although I can do that on my flat property, I would want to fix at the very least those brakes. Would probably use and fix the rest as I go. Thanks for the numbers, it helps me dial it in.

Thanks bison. Wow, okay, so I'm high on what I'm thinking. Really appreciate you guys (and gals) for responding, I knew it was right for me to put this on here (mostly because SWMBO said so) :)

JD 2010's have long, long, long history as the WORST model tractor JD ever built. Save yourself some grief & $$$$$$ and find a real BH tractor!!!!!!

PS: 2010 brakes resembled dragging a stick to stop when they were brand new.

If the owner through the dash away what else did he destroy in the process. I agree that if tires are Ok and the arm joints are tight, 2 to 2.5 would be tops. You do not know it is even charging or has oil pressure! Jim

First off its a wreck waiting for the scrap guy to come by. The brakes are real hard to get at on a JD and can be a big bill if they are completely gone. The cause of the swing not stopping is because there is something in the controll valve, from my experience this is something from the pump. There goes another big bill. No I wouldn't give over scrap price for it.

I agree with the others....Too much money;and a POS tractor as well.Pass it by.Around here there a lot of old backhoes, owned by farmers to maintain irrigation ditches. You can buy a darn good machine for 10,000

I don't know the market there but 5,000 dollars should buy you a good Case 530 TLB which is much better than a 2010.

Thanks everyone. I spoke to them and let them know everything I found and even some of the feedback here. I tried to break the news to them gently and respectfully. They had paid 6,500 for it years ago and put money into it so would not take less than 5,000, the guy selling had his knee go bad and can't use it anymore but said it was worth it for them to just let it sit rather than let it go for even 3,000, so I graciously passed. Thanks to all of you that replied. Y'all were such great help and anytime I'm considering this kind of buy in the future I'm coming here first.

Tne JD 2010 had has the reputation that TxJim stated. We had one tractor loader that went for more than 5000 hours when sold(running). I woould not buy it unless you want to spend the rest of your like using it an hour working on it an hour. Also, 2010 used parts were tough to get 20 years ago. Dash and sheet metal impossible new or used.
I have always had Case backhoes and had relatively good luck. Personally, if it is for your own use I would look for a 580 with a mechanical shuttle. You, will have to look a while to find one. If the shuttle is good it will last forever. Cylinder packings can be bought after market quite inexpesively. Lot of parts around if something does go wrong.
I have 2 much newer ones with cabs on them, but around the house and shop I always jump on the 580 shuttle.
Around here you can find them for about $4 to 6,000. They were made in the late 1960s. If I am not mistaken the 2010 go back to the early 60s
I would not be scared to widen you search area. U-ship is my choice for trucking. There are very few tractors or implements that I have bought that I could have trucked cheaper myself.
I am in New York (where you need a degee in electrical engineering to get your car inspected).
Do not know how it is in Idaho.

Run, don't walk away from this deal. I had a customer that had one years ago, then one day he had another 2010..now he had 2...he said, I knew the first one wasn't worth a damn, and I bought a second one to confirm.. I was right, they're both no damn good!!
