My front mount 6V 8N is lacking power. It seems like it runs half way decent when the choke is pulled out surges on a little load and lacks power. I pulled the plug at the bottom of the carborator and I am getting gas. How much gas should I be getting?
When I put the tractor away last fall it was running fine. I had changed the points, plugs and spark plug wires last spring. Could it be that I left some gas in the tank last fall could it be bad gas? I am pretty sure I treated the gas
. Anyone have a clue what my problem could be? Thanks for your help.

pulling the choke out, probably means your jets are mostly plugged up. Run a really good cleaner through it or rebuild the carb...

Take off the sediment bulb, and see if you get a good steady stream of gas. In my experience, its more often a partially plugged tank outlet than a carburetor problem. In any event, the tank outlet is a better place to start, because it may fix the problem without the opportunity for you to mess up the carb. Always go from simple to more complex.

If you are pullin on the choke to increase power, it might be your choke shaft packings/shaft are worn, letting air leak in, and lean out your mixture...

It doesn't matter when you last replaced the points.
Check your spark.
VERIFY that you have a good bluish white spark that will jump at least 1/4 inch.
Short or yellowish spark will not do.
Requires no tools to pull a plug wire and check.
Only then go on to fuel.

I had a bad ballast resistor do that to me on a 9N. Would run with the choke half out but stall with it in. Richer mixture apparently lights easier. About drove me nuts, actually that is when I learned they had a ballast resistor, I had never seen one on a 6V system prior to that.
