MF 135 timing problem

I just replaced the distributor and distributor drive shaft on my MF 135 (Perkins 3 cyl). Now it starts ok, but when it warms up, I have to rotate the distributor in order for it to run smoothly. If I leave it in that position at shut-down, it won't start. I didn't have this problem before replacing the distributor and driveshaft. Any ideas?

When you removed the distributor did you note where the rotor was pointing? You probably should bring No1 piston to tdc on the compression
stroke then look where your rotor is pointing. It should be at the No1 plug tower. Hal

Check the advance weights inside the distributor and see if the are frozen up. It sounds like you are retarding the timing to crank it and then advancing the timing to get it to run good and make power which would be signs that the advance in the distributor is not working.
