Golf cart battery question

A farm that I do a lot of work for has 2 golf carts. One has four 8 volt batteries and the other has six 6 volt batteries. Over the years we have had to interchange chargers when one of them needed a part. They both appear to be the same charger. The one with 8 volt batteries needs new batteries. The owner is wondering if we can install 6 volt batteries instead of eights as the one with 6 volt batteries has always been snappier. Physically, it would be very simple to do as they are both the same in every other way (not sure about motor or controller) They are Club Car brand. Anyone here have any experience or thoughts? Thanks, Andy

Never heard of a 32volt ClubCar. Not saying they don't exist, just never heard of one. My guess would be someone was trying to get off cheap and used 8volt batteries. Its probably suppose to be on 36volt to start with, so I see no reason why you couldn't put it back. What year CC are they?

Me too, never heard of a 32v Club car. 36 or 48v, no 32v. It should be easy to prove BUBBA has branched out to golf cart repair. Measure the total output from charger on the 36v battery bank and then on the 32v car. Bet they close to the same, so the 32v bank is getting way too much voltage. I'm surprised you are saying the charger on the 32v car isn't blowing the charger's fuse.

You can use an amprobe and measure the current each charger is putting out. Yes, you can measure the changing DC current with an amprobe. So report back and tell us what the current is.

Ive see a ton of conventional Club Car or EZ Go or Yamaha electric golf carts and all Ive seen are EITHER the older 36 Volt (Six 6 volt batteries) or 48 volt (Six 8 volt or even 4 twelves would work).

I guess in theory as long as your series battery combination is the correct voltage, sure either 6 or 8 volt batteries can be used HOWEVER if you need 36 volts, six 6 volters in series works but its kinda hard to get series 36 using only 8 volt batteries (4 = 32, 5 = 40). If you need 48 volts six eights will work but you would need 8 of the 6 volters!!!
