IaGary, field work?

How are you progressing on the field work, Gary? My garden corn that was planted the first week in April is about 18 inches tall here in SC. We have had some 90 degree days, now having a cooling off period. Was 49 this AM. Presently 69. Had 2 inches of rain yesterday which was needed. We did NOT get much of those downpours like other areas of the SE had a couple of weeks ago. We also didn't get wide spread wind storms.

Looks like IA is having a cool down period also.

I am about 60 miles from him.

We had about a week of good weather to get corn in, some of it is just popping out. It has been cold and rainy the last few days, so no field work again.

Frost warnings tonight.

David,
Most of the corn is in and poping through here in central Illinois. Quite a few beans in too but this week was a "washout" for getting anything done.

I posted last year about neighbor's pastures being no tilled in soybeans. They grew well, but not too tall with the wet weather we had. When the beans were in the filling out stage we had some dry weather which must have hurt yields but I never heard how well they yielded. Neighbor died before his renter harvested the beans. This year the fields are rented again and they have sprayed the fields, maybe with Roundup by the apperance of the killed vegetation, and have spread chicken litter left in a covered pile from last year. They have started planting something but the 2 inches of rain has slowed things down.

Yup last week (5-5 thru 5-10) we had some good planting weather.

I got my corn in along with a neighbors who is still recovering from a New Years eve heart attack.

Some of the corn is up but slow due to the cold and wet this week.

Might be able to get started on bean planting tomorrow if we get some sun today.

Kind of a strung out spring for planting here.

Glad you're making progress. Planting sort of strung out here also. Commercial corn at the foot of the mountains 4-5 inches high. Cooler there than here.
Some wheat near here was baled in the last few days. It was not too tall, hadn't really paid attention to it so have no idea how much grain it would have yielded next month.
