You know it was a brutal winter when.....

I had a hydrant in the barn that was frozen due to not draining properly. Last weekend was the first time I was comfortable enough to force it (apparently no damage, it now works).

It was below freezing this morning, w/ frost warnings the rest of the week.

Neighbour tried seeding here a couple of days ago... apparently got 400 acres in before he got stuck, tractor (big four wheel drive) sank about 6 inches and hit ice... so no rush here yet...

Western side of Manitoba, about 2 hours drive north of the US border...

Wife's coworker went out last week to start her garden for the year. Dug into her compost pile and hit something hard. Scratched away the surface and it was solid ice underneath. We have had a couple days close to 90 but mostly cooler. Pretty odd.

I had coffee the other morning with a guy who was telling me his neighbor at the lake had his water line freeze over night last weekend, by noon it had thawed and started working.
