69 model 2000 3 cyl gas tractor

I know this is a very basic question, but is the #1 cyl at the front or the rear of the engine block. Thanks in advance for answering such an elementary question.

I don't know about this model, but most others are number 1 is front on the inlines.

On most engines, # 1 is closest to the radiator, I was always taught.

Hi John; on my 66 Ford 3000 3cyl diesel #1 cyl is in the front, closest to the radiator. I believe the gas engine is numbered the same.

Yes, #1 is in front.
Firing order is 1,2,3 - It is cast into the top of the aluminum intake manifold.
Distributer turns counter clockwise.

My local dealer says Deutz is numbered from the rear.
