Which one of these tractors would be the best buy?

Massey Ferguson 65mk2 or the Massey Ferguson 135.

I would imagine the MF65mk2 would be more superior to the mf135 tractor?

I'm not sure what you mean by a 65 mk2, but the 65 is larger, heavier and has more HP than a 135. The 135 is a little better on fuel and is more refined, newer and more nimble. Tire condition is everything these days too. What are you looking to use them for?

as far as I know there is a mf65 mk1 about 50 hp diesel engine and more difficult to start. The Mf65 mk2 diesel engine is a lot easier to start.
I would be using the tractor on a 4ton trailer for road haulage and using the tractor for ploughing and mowing.

Is there better brakes on the mf 65 tractor?

The wording he is using makes me think he is across the pond and the tractors he is asking about were not avaible on this side of the pond. So cannot compair to our versions.

If I remember correctly off the top of my head, the MK I had the 192 Perkins and the MK II had the 203 Perkins but they were indirect injection. The 203 that was used in the 165 was direct injection so the indirect is not quite as good of an engine as the later ones but still a very good engine. Personally I would go for the 135. Newer tractor and had drivetrain improvements and parts are readily available. The 135 was the best selling tractor in the 100 series lineup.

Not sure about UK tractors, but all US built 65 diesels had the Perkins 203 engine. The early models were indirect injection. They switched to direct injection about 1962. My 1964 65 has the same engine as a 165.

The MF 135 has drum brakes that tend to get oiled by
the axle seals if not properly maintained. The MF
65 has dual inboard dry disc brakes that turn faster
than the wheel (due to outboard planetary gears) and
work extremely well (if properly maintained). Both
are great tractors but I would go for the 65.
