Typical......?

This should be the week for the silage choppers to start here in Northern Ireland and .......it is forecasting rain! The crops are already heavy and with the warmth plus these quite heavy rain showers, it is going to get real heavy and lodged.....not at all what the custom cutters want to see, but good news for the farmer! The top dairy farmers are already complining about quality going down, they don't like to see seed heads forming on the grass and next week the early varieties will be making up for a seed head.......The tough life of a farmer....eh????..........

Here in southern Cayuga county, central NY state, the highest producing grain area of the state(which isn't necessarily saying a lot) very little field work has been done. After an unusually cold winter I had hoped the ground would be frozen out and in excellent condition. But what little I have done looks to be the opposite. We have been flooded here for about a year, and I guess it's not over yet. My ground is in terrible shape. And yet a couple hours east of here Loren(ACG) has posted pictures of how dry it is there!

We are irrigating here in Fort Collins, Co. Alfalfa is about a foot tall. Woke to an inch of snow on the ground this morning. Always fun.
