JD 2020 Clutch failure

Can anyone tell me if they have had the PTO clutch fail on their 2020 ? I was running a tiller and it just stopped, then something came loose and blew the clutch cover off the left side of the housing by the clutch. I was able to get the tractor back to the house then the not so funny screeching noise started and I shut it down.

What does it mean ? can it be fixed ? or is the tractor toast ?

Ok, I do know about these, and there seems to be 3 types of pto assemblies on these, and I recall some problems you may be able to repair without having to split the tractor. I posted this same problem about a friends 2020, pto stopped working, but nothing else happened like you describe, I'll bet it will have to be disassembled.

The sliding collar that engages the shaft failed on this one and there is no way but to split the tractor to repair it.

On this one, he was running this cobbed up 4'-0" rotary mower, something out of balance and my opinion of this as stated to them about it was this was pure stupidity as that vibration travels all the way into the drivetrain, some don't know any better and should, fix or replace that mower. This caused the failure, 3K later at the local small tractor/ag shop and a total tear down, its labor intense and you better have the correct books for the tractor, I'm not sure I'd have attempted this repair, I'm sure I could learn it, just not for a first timer.

JD Seller, a participant here. helped me with this and posted the diagrams I will post with this response, as well as the photos of the 2020 with the lift cover off. Do a search on this forum, the post is less than a year old, just type in 2020 in the search field of entry, it should come up. That shaft is way down in the bottom, real hard to access. I fooled with it to determine it was the collar and it had to be split, so they had to send it out. Also, the brakes or something left all these tiny metallic fines in a sump, all of this had to be cleaned and flushed as well.
